Discovery Kids PRESCHOOL at Cornerstone Academy
Cornerstone's Discovery Kids PreK Program is not only an engaging way for your students to learn and socialize with other students, but it also prepares them for the content and lessons they will learn in kindergarten and beyond! We are so excited to offer preschool to children 2-5 years old. Yes, even 2 year olds. Your child does not have to be potty trained to attend.
We use Experience Curriculum by Mother Goose Time as well as the Core Knowledge Preschool Listening and Learning/ Skills Set Curriculum. Our PreK year two class will incoorperate Discovery Phonics as they get closer to Kindergarten. Our center is naturebased and as always, child centered. Our Preschool Programs are headed by Miss Jami. Miss Jami is a certified elementary teacher in the State of Idaho. She has taught kindergarten for four years during her 18+ years of teaching inlcuding owning a preschool in Utah and teaching there for 6 years. Miss Jami is also certified in Early Child Development and has taught and worked with children and thier parents through the Division of Child and Family Services.
Miss Jami has created a high quality preschool program that will prepare your child for kindergarten. The Discovery Kids Preschool program at Cornerstone has a music and arts specialist that is incoorperated in our schedules weekly. We include nature based play as well as field trips so that your child gets to experience the world around them.

FOR REGULAR SCHOOL YEAR PROGRAM ONLY:
There is a one-time $50 registration fee for our school year program and a $150 yearly supply fee for all children 2-5 years old. Our Regular School Year Program is Tuesday-Thursday, with optional Monday and Friday. Our school program runs a 3-day week, and Mondays and Fridays are learning-oriented activity days. These are the days we will take our field trips, do our math learning games, science experiments, arts and crafts, music & movement. Activity Days are highly encouraged, but not a required day for curriculum from our learning books and teacher-created lesson plans.
Please send your student with a water bottle DAILY and sunscreen on sunny days. Our curriculum includes take home items and students will have access to many different types of manipulatives and learning activities in the classroom. Our program is overseen by a licensed and credentialed educator. Parents are always welcome to come and see what we are learning in class and volunteer to help with their student’s learning.

Why Themes?
Themes help preschoolers construct knowledge and build connections through real experiences. Instead of having a day of disjointed activities, themes organize new information around a unified context, which results in a growing web of knowledge.
Each theme creatively integrates colors, shapes, numbers and letters of the month.Monthly themes invite children to explore new ideas with an interdisciplinary, multi-sensory approach. Experience Curriculum uses music, art, dramatic play, storytelling, games, books and experiments to ignite imagination and bring the theme to life in four weeks of wonder.
RESEARCH-BASED APPROACH TO LEARNINGThe Experience Curriculum family applies child development theories and brain research to a unique model of teacher support, child experience and family engagement.
Brain and early childhood research provides the groundwork for designing developmentally appropriate and effective experiences for young children.Research in neurobiology, behavioral science and social sciences have helped us better understand that relationships, cultures and environments dynamically influence a child’s development. As a result, each child grows and learns uniquely.
All Experience Early Learning resources integrate the same skills and coding system to cite the learning objectives for a given project or activity. This allows educators to consistently assess skill development across multiple curricular tools.

We believe learning is a process. Authentic assessment allows you to capture learning as it happens. Each child will begin a new yearly Learning Portfolio that will include pieces of thier work and the milestones they reach. Portfolios go home at the end of the year. (May if in preschool only or August if enrolled year around) This is a great tool for parents and teachers as well as a momento of your child's life experiences at Cornerstone Academy.
